Mask

Writer: Dr. Cheryl PetersonDr. Cheryl Peterson

Some days it’s hard to remember what day it is.  It’s hard to know what to write.  This is probably the strangest period of time I’ve ever had in my life.  I think the strangest thing is that it is not just affecting me, it’s affecting everyone.

I got a gift in my mailbox today. Two months ago I wouldn’t have even known what it was. Today it’s almost a necessity. My neighbor made me a mask. At least she made it with her fabric from her husband’s paintings. I have a dress in a similar fabric and it always makes me smile. I think when I put on my mask, I will smile. I will smile because I’m healthy and my family is healthy. I’ll smile because of the gift of family time we have because of this. I’ll smile because of the catalyst I’ve had to finish my writing and share my book. I’ll smile and be grateful because gratitude and fear can’t live in the same place. My mask is not a mask of fear. You might not be able to see me smile underneath it, but it’s there!
